The course is looking awesome for this Sunday, we have been at the track all day Wednesday and are running the course in reverse direction to last year. There are now more long uphill climbs (one with 4 different routes) and 2 new quarry type sections and the mx track area is in perfect condition compared to the frozen ground last year. The weather forecast is looking good for the weekend which should bring a nice end to the season. See you all Sunday.

MWMCC Cross Country Championship June 19th 2011 – Adult Round 3, Youth Round 2
The latest round of Midwest MCC cross country championship at Cley Hill, Nr Warminster was held on 300 acres of woodland owned by the Longleat Estate, it proved to be a tough challenge for the riders as it was the first time in 3 years that the course started off wet due to heavy rain the previous day and overnight.
The riders were greeted Sunday morning with clear skies and with the promise of sunshine throughout the day it meant the racing would be interesting as the course started to dry out.
The Experts were first away to tackle the 5miles of technical terrain which would require 100per cent concentration to negotiate the various forest tracks and meandering woodland, this proved to suit Welshman Jon Hinam riding his Husaberg 300 as he appeared at the lap scoring on the first lap nearly 1minute ahead of Si Wakely, the next rider through was the ever youthful Jack Twentyman followed by Jeremy Box, Tyson Maytom-Jones and Arran Smith who were in a close battle for fourth place. Si Wakely chased down Jon Hinam and on lap 3 managed to pass him for the lead, it remained a close battle throughout and as the track dried the lap times became quicker allowing the 2 team mates to complete 13 laps with Si winning by the smallest of margins being only 3 seconds. After completing the first lap in ninth place Derek Bawn relentlessly pursued the early leaders to finish a commendable 3rd place after completing 12 laps followed 3mins later by the ever consistent Jeremy Box in fourth place. Also completing 12 laps were Jack Twentyman, Arran Smith and Tyson Maytom-Jones in 5th 6th and 7th positions respectively.
Gary Baker was in a class of his own in the Veteran Experts beating his closest rivals by a clear lap, Stephen Grimshaw finished a comfortable 2nd 9minutes ahead of Jason Rees who both completed 11 laps. Regular rider Marcus Barnes finished 4th followed by Shaun Price then Adrian Francis completing 10 laps.
With 11 laps to his name Richard Perkins was outstanding in the Clubman 2stroke winning his group by a lap from Jesse Say who rode the whole race with a front wheel puncture 2minutes ahead of Robert Ellick. After his bike failed to start on the line Sam Hoskins battled his way through to finish in 4th place followed by Shaun Couzens and Simon Prideaux all on 10 laps.
The Clubman 4stroke group was a closely fought affair with only nine minutes separating the top five finishers which was headed by Reg Sheppard who was 4minuets ahead of Pete Ballinger in second place with George Fraser, James Heath and Matthew Lefevre . A closely fought battle between Kevin Butcher and Roger Billam meant that they finished a lap ahead of their rivals with Kevin topping Veteran group by a minute, and then came a solitary Gary Clarke on 9 laps with Andrew Taylor, Andrew Trott and Alan James a further lap behind.
Matthew Jones dominated the Sportsman 2stroke class with a lap advantage over the young Mitch Frost who finished 2mins ahead of Iain Randall, with David Threadingham, Alex Knott and Callum Collins also achieving 9 laps.
The young Jack Liddiard proved to be learning fast since leaving the youth class to win the Sportsman 4stroke group a clear lap ahead of his nearest rivals by completing 9 laps. Tom Austin was in 2nd place 5mins ahead of Steve Curtis with 4mins separating the remaining riders who were Anthony Mallet, Steve Rolstone and Andrew Rippa.
Training Day on Saturday 18th June at Cley Hill. Starts at 1pm for 3 hours open to adults & youths call 01225 791179 to book in.
Due to lack of entries we will have to postpone the BXCC round 2 at Chavenage on May 15th with the possibility at re-running it at a later date if possible.

What a nice day.
I was a little warm but what nice weather to enjoy some good racing with. We had a good turn out of riders. The expert class defiantly had a few quick riders in there. Look forward to seeing you at the next event.

Just a few notes
There were a few riders who started in the wrong groups, please don't as you risk upsetting Michelle. CAUTION NEVER UPSET HER!
Also there was reports that a few riders went past some marshals at full speed. If a marshal is on course please slow down.
Well its almost time for the second round of the MWMCC Series and the first round for the youth. Hope you are already for it.
We have moved the car park again, this time you turn off by the farm like we did last time. But now you need to go down the concrete road just a little further and you will see the parking on the left.
Just a few things we would like to say
Tear offs are not allowed, yet we picked up lots of them around the track. It is stated on the entry form and final regs that no tear-offs are allowed. Next event we will be watching and at the lap scoring area we will stop any rider using tear-offs and remove them. This rule is for the sake of the landowner who has livestock (sheep & cattle) and they will eat these tear offs if they are left. Be warned we will be watching!
Also general rubbish left in the car park was more than usual there are black bin bags provided so please use them or just take the rubbish home with you and save someone else the job of picking up your rubbish.
Finally with some new members there seemed to be a few helpers in the re-fuelling/work area as stated on the entry form this is not allowed and there are also signs around the work area so please no people in the work area except the rider, this is for safety.
On a positive note it was good to see so many of you enjoying a good days riding and several new additions to the track, see you all again in April in reverse direction at Chavenage Farm.

The marshals are there for your safety and do not need any sort of abuse at all. We are considering what penalty to enforce at the moment though it does state in our rules section "15-Rider Behaviour".
Also, just to clarified the "youth rider assistance" in the youth race is that a helper age 18 and above is allowed to follow on a motorcycle with hi-vis vest group 4 riders only ( ages 6 to 10 ) unless they are a complete beginner in any other group.

Hewitt National XC Championship (Round 2) at Chavenage Farm on Sunday, 18th April organised by Midwest MCC
Report By Mike Wood
The super Chavenage venue, scene of last months successful staging of the first ever ACU British Enduro Sprint championship witnessed yet more action at the weekend as the Midwest MCC held the second round of their Hewitt National XC series. Once again a bumper entry was in attendance to tackle the very dry, undulating Gloucestershire circuit, with for the first time racing for Youth riders. The kids in attendance proceeded to produce some great competition after first witnessing Midwest Racing supported riders Ollie Moyce and Tyson Maytom-Jones score a great 1-2 in the main Adult event aboard their Husaberg machines.
Indeed it could have been total domination for the Midwest team as in the opening few circuits of the Experts Adult event, Jamie Padget was also keeping his teammates company up at the front until a re-occurrence of a recent hand injury was to eventually force him out on lap four. Earlier in the contest it was though the very experienced Ady Smith who had led the pack away to commence their three hour blast aboard his two-stroke KTM before dropping back to 5th spot. Another rider initially in contention for honours and producing some very impressive lap times was James Jackman until retiring on lap eight after his Yamaha lost all of its gearbox oil and seized. So,after passing Smith before the completion of lap one,the immaculate Moyce led all the way to the chequered flag, finishing two minutes ahead of his very determined teammate Tyson Maytom-Jones whilst third placed Darren Wheeler was charging hard and just a very narrow five seconds behind Jones.
In the Veteran Experts, winner Gary Baker and Alastair Bramwell both completed 13 laps. From here onwards, the next ten finishers all managed 12 laps with Marcus Barnes taking 3rd ahead of Terry Beecham, Stuart Keedwell and Chris Brown. The other class for Veteran riders at Chavenage produced a very interesting contest as the top ten finishers all managed a grand total of 11 laps. Although both Roger Billam and Richard Newman posted a fastest lap time of 15 minutes 14 seconds,it was Billam who was the class winner, nearly five minutes ahead of Malcolm Elliott whilst Newman finished 3rd.
Clubman 2T and Arran Wells,Jason Hamblin, Mark Hamblin, Dan Morris and Andy Stagg all completed a total of 12 laps and both Wells and J Hamblin recorded an identical fastest lap time of 14 minutes and 35 seconds. Victor though was Wells just 26 seconds better than Jason Hamblin with the other Hamblin, Mark in 3rd. The top four in Clubman 4T,Daniel Price, Fredie Davis, Shaun Couzens and Darren Morgan also managed 12 laps of the flowing Chavenage circuit each. Taking the win in this class was Price,21 seconds ahead of Davis.
Sportsman 2T and Wayne Tibbles was to be the first man home after blasting to a total of 11 laps completed,48 seconds in front of Sam Hoskins. Also managing 11 laps was Chris Stevens and David Threadingham the respective 3rd and 4th placed finishers. Likewise, the top two finishers in the Sportsman 4T, James Heath and Joshua Fusco also completed 11 Chavenage laps. Heath not only recorded the fastest lap time in this class but also finished an very impressive 5 minutes ahead of runner-up Fusco whilst John Brown,Michael Jones,Kevin Park and Steve Curtis completed the top six.
As mentioned for the first time,a Midwest MCC event staged XC racing for youth riders. In a separate race lasting for 90 minutes and on a shortened circuit, there was four different groups. For the oldest kids in a MX2 class,George Hayes scored a great win,a full lap ahead of runner-up Jack Liddiard. In the Big-Wheeled 85cc class, the top three of Lewis Dowdeswell, Joshua Ford and Sam Widdicombe all managed 10 laps. In a race to the chequered flag, Dowdeswell was to earn the win, 22 seconds ahead of Ford.
In an incredibly tighter finish though, just a very slender 4 seconds separated Small-Wheeled 85cc winner Stefan Millward and runner-up Isaac Atherley. On the same lap total as the top two were Ross Jones, Jordan Ridgeway and Charlie Wood. The final class for riders aged 6 to 9 years saw seven gallant riders come to the start line. After 90 minutes of honest, competitive XC racing,Freddie Box was to take the win 27 seconds ahead of Josh Wilson, Luke Molter, Alfie Webb, Matthew Martin, Sam Nunn and Archie Hicks. Although finishing in 7th spot,Hicks did record the fastest lap time in this group, some 36 seconds quicker than Box!!. This was another great Midwest MCC promotion and there is certainly the promise of plenty more to come as the 2010 season unfolds!!,so get your entries in fast!!.
Results for the second round are online. Current standings will be worked out over the next few days (yeah I know) so be sure to come back and check.

The meeting on the 21st March will now be re-scheduled for June 27th, this will now include both adult and youth riders. This is due to MWMCC being involved with the ACU British Enduro Sprint Series scheduled to run March 27/28 at the clubs Chavenage Farm venue. MWMCC’s commitment to helping the ACU organize a new enduro event means that it in not possible for the club to run two events simultaneously, as to not to disappoint MWMCC members we have re-scheduled the event.
Further commitments form MWMCC to promote the new British Cross Country Championship in conjunction with the ACU, scheduled for May 16th has meant the club event on May 23rd has been cancelled. All club members are invited to ride this event and will be an ideal opportunity to ride the Chavenage Farm venue and also see some of the top enduro/cross country riders in the afternoon (details wail be sent out to club members). If club members wish to ride this event then they will be given a £5 discount off the next MWMCC meeting on June 27th, due to the fact that the British Cross Country Event will cost £50. MWMCC club championship points will not be awarded at the British Cross Country event.
This is the revised schedule of MWMCC events:
April 18th - Adult & Youth
June 27th - Adult & Youth
July 25th - Adult & Youth
Sept 12th - Adult & Youth
Oct 24th - Adult & Youth
Nov 28th - Adult only
Other MWMCC organised events:
*March 27/28th - British Enduro Sprint Championships
*May 16th - British Cross Country Championship
*(These events are separate to MWMCC club championships)
We have produced new set of results following a number of complaints about some of the finish times. I sent the race data away to the person who made the timing program and he noticed that one of the internal clocks in one of the readers was reading slow due to a low voltage from the internal battery, he has recalculated the times with this information in mind and has come up with this set of results which he says are correct. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
Report by Bob Mullins Photos by Martin Harding & Jack Stringer

The 1st round of the 2010 Hewitt National XC Championship got off to a cracking start at Chavenage Farm near Tetbury on Sunday 21st February. Overnight snow had dusted the fields with a light frosting. The sun shone but the air was cold. The Midwest team of Ollie Moyce, Jamie Paget & Tyson Maytom-Jones had organised a training session the day before & their first job on Sunday morning was to chip the frozen mud off their wheels. Despite heavy snow in the North, Craig Reynolds & Lewis Belfield had slogged their way down to ride at Midwest for the first time.

By the 11.00am, 208 riders were signed on & grouped in 7 ranks on the start line. As the flag dropped, Dave Nuttall whipped up his ktm to take the holeshot ahead of Aaran Poolman on his 09 Husaberg. In the slick conditions, the grass cambers of the opening mile were treacherous & by the 3rd corner Aaron had taken the lead. Jack Twentyman led of the Expert Vets away with Marcus Barnes close behind. Other Shooters were: Clubman 2T Robert Macfarlane, Clubman 4T Freddie Davis, Vets Kevin Butcher, Sports 4T Michael Jones.
The Chavenage course runs for 6 miles around a picturesque Gloucestershire valley & this year it will be the venue for the British Enduro Sprint Championship & a round of the ACU Hare & Hounds Championship. With such a busy schedule COC Simon Molter opted for a faster flowing course that would help to conserve the ground. From the start the riders skirted 4 fields before entering the first of 2 woods. There was less of the snaking through the trees than last year but there was a big hill. It presented a challenge but it's gravel base held up well. Darren Wheeler (left Martino) made short work of the climb but it gave a few riders a warming work out. They then skirted more fields before dropping down into the valley to cross the stream by the bridge. Turning into a wide pasture the course invited the competitive to wind open the throttle but there was still a bit ice about & several riders simply kept on turning & turning.

The course then climbed the steep side of the valley & entered the 2nd wood. At this point the marking clearly directed the riders along last year's easy route but an Expert Vet suffered a bit of memory loss & forgot why he was there. He took a shortcut up the old hard route. By the 2nd lap a couple of logs blocked the route as a reminder. Halfway around the 1st lap, Lewis Belfield's gearbox selector failed while he was running in 3rd. Fortunately the KB Racing team carry a full set of spares so Lewis could carry on.
As the bikes & riders flashed through the dappled light beneath the trees, the spectators gathered at the finish. Lap scoring was by transponder & there were 2 channels. The first through was Ollie Moyce (right JS) ahead of Aaran Poolman, Jason Fraser & Jamie Paget. The leading group were 30 seconds ahead of Dave Nuttall who slipped coming out of the gate & Premier team mate Rich Warner collided with him. Ian Francis pitted early with a loose plug. Kevin Bartlett snapped his chain on the start line. Tyson Maytom-Jones wrote off his Airoh helmet on a low branch. For Tyson most branches fit neatly into the low category. Dan Beavan & Ben Shuttleorth both retired with a snapped head bolts. James Blanch's clutch lever was jamming against his light switch assembly. James' solution was to have a fag. Neville Goodman was still nursing a hand injury he picked up in South Africa which would to be too much for him on the day. On lap 2 Derek Bawn dropped off the radar. He lost an hour getting back into race & he did very well clock up 9 laps. Matt Ridgway's dad John had 3 family members to support. His nephew Sam Tucker had been playing rugby the day before & he started the day with more bumps & bruises than most riders finished with. The close racing in the wet meant that mud became a problem for both the bikes & the riders. It clogged the rads & splattered their goggles.

By the halfway point the sun had begun to work it's magic & the course began to dry. The Chavenage course is very compact & a good crowd had turned out to support the riders. Ollie Moyce held onto the lead, closely followed by Jason Fraser but with less than 30 minutes to go Jason's new Suzuki ran out of petrol. He had only had the bike for 3 days & he wasn't too sure of the capacity. Ollie Moyce went on to take the overall win. He had enough of a lead to stop for a splash & dash on his last lap. Midwest team mate Jamie Paget (right Martino) clocked in for his final lap with 10 seconds to go to take the runner up. Jamie did well to get so much out of his Husaberg 570 in such slick conditions. Darren Wheeler was 3rd & Rich Warner was 4th. Manchester Xtreme's Craig Reynolds had a worthwhile journey in 5th & Dave Nuttall pick himself up to finish 6th. Despite losing his gear selector Lewis Belfield finished 7th with 12 laps. Aaran Poolman finished in 8th His fastest time was only 1 second slower than the winner's. Tyson Mayton-Jones nudged his way into 9th with one eye on the clock & one eye on the rapidly approaching Jeremy Box. Jack Twentyman won the Expert Vets ahead of Marcus Barnes. Aaran Wells was the best Clubman 2t & Pete King was the runner up. Freddie Davis led the Clubman 2t from the start to the finish. Mark Hamblin was the runner up. Kevin Barnes won the Vets ahead of Darren Jones. Sam Hoskins & Mike Ridgway both clocked up 9 laps in the Sports 2t & Macej Devdzy was the best Sports 4t as well as the worst selection possible in Scrabble.

After the event Ollie Moyce said that he hadn't had the best of starts & he had struggled with arm pump on the first few laps but it was probably the same for everyone. Once the course began to dry out he really enjoyed the ride & he was looking forward to a cheeseburger at the finish. Sadly the crowds had eaten all the buns.

Gary Baker who competes in the Veteran Expert class broke has broken his foot during the first hour on Sunday's event. Even though he broke his foot he still carried on and managed to finish 3rd in his class. Proving even though he is old he can still keep racing like the kids do. GWS Gary.
Results for the first round are online. Current standings will be worked out over the next few days so be sure to come back and check.
On a slightly sadder note, Simon would like to say,
There have been reports of some riders swearing and shouting at other riders when they come up to pass them. This is only a minority of riders and seem to be the same offenders, your numbers have been noted and next you will be "named & shamed" on the website, further complaints will results in exclusion. All riders encounter back markers/laped riders and most wait or pass fairly so everyone is paying the same money to be out there please respect them.

Thank you to all that turned up for a great days racing. Also a big thanks to the marshals and medics as well.

A special thanks from Robert Dixon (403) to Daniel Price (412) because even though they are in a battle in their class Daniel came to the aid of Robert when he ran out of fuel. Daniel had gearbox problems so was out of the race so loaned Robert a few litres out of his bike so Robert could continue to a 2nd place finish in his class.

Well due the postal strikes some of the entries have not been coming in as quickly as normal. So if you are not on the ENTRY LIST and you have sent your entry form then please ring the shop on 01225 791179
Thank you.

So remember Ston Easton, 20th September.
I have also updated the Current Standings page and it should show the lastest figures. I have not taken the worst scores away yet.
Results are in and now they are online.
We had a lot of luck with the weather today. With only slight drizzle during the racing.

The track was a tough one again, but riders were still smiling by the end of the event.

2nd - Rich Warner
3rd - Derek Bawn

Parking for the Woods is on the A36. It is recommended to come from Warminster as it is a busy road and it maybe hard to turn across the traffic.

Report by Martin Harding

The event was held in Norridge Wood in the shadow of Clay Hill part of the Longleat estate near Warminster. The Midwest team had laid out a superb course mostly in the woods where the many drainage ditches kept riders concentrated along with the tree stumps and roots and not using the fire roads there was no rest for riders.

Late entry Tom Sager along with his father Paul both winning there class which added a lot of interest for the many spectators Tom spending time signing posters and having his photo taken with his supporters. With the temperature souring the race started at 11.00 o'clock with the 200 riders facing a tough 3 hour race with the course changing as the race progressed it became very unpredictable with most experts having one or more falls. First class away the Experts saw Steve Grimshaw and Rich Warner arrived at the first corner together, 1st Tom Sager 16laps, 2nd Darren Wheeler,3rd Rich Warner, 4th Derick Bawn 15 laps, 5th Anthony Dean.
Next away the Vets EXP. Alistair Bramwell got the hole shot followed by James Browning and Dave Potts, 1st Gary Baker 15laps, 2nd Alistair Bramwell, 3rd David Grimshaw, 4th Dave Potts 14 laps, 5th Lewie Davie.
Clubman 2t Fredie Davies got to the corner first with Bebjamin Wyles right on his back wheel followed by Trevor Jones, 1st Nathen Etheridge15 laps, 2nd Trev Jones 14 laps. 3rd Peter Kyte, 4th Benjamin Wyles, 5th Neil Pettit.
Clubman 4t Simon Evens and Stuart Davy Fought side by side from the line right into the corner with Andy Chub close behind. 1st Grant Churchwood 14 laps, 2nd Jason Webb, 3rd Mathew Lefever, 4th Asa Hurly, 5th Simon Evens.

The Veteran class saw the most closely fought start with three riders together in line at the first corner Ian Griffiths Tony Hobbs and Paul Sager, 1st Paul Sagar 14 laps, 2nd Tony Hobbs 13 laps, 3rd Trev Child, 4th Glen Woodland, 5th Garry Clark.
The sportsman 2 Stroke, Dan Price was the clear leader off the line, 1st Dan Price 14laps, 2nd Robert Dixon 13 laps, 3rd Robert Lees, 4th Scott Thompson 12laps, 5th Thomas Janikowsi.
The sportsman 4 stroke, A spectacular arrival at the corner by Nicholas Keen with back wheel off the ground with feet up at seat height standing on his arms nearly gaining control before colliding with James Tucker then falling off, 1st Scot King 13 laps, 2nd James Tucker, 3rd Kevin Parker 12 laps, 4th Steve Chesterton, 5th Tom Aston.

Expert class winner Tom Sager said he enjoyed the event and the woods were good but the ground became very unpredictable as the roots became exposed.

Well I have been down to the track today and had a ride out on the FE450 Husaberg. Its a very nice bike, it coped with my lack of riding ability very well. The track is in excellent condition. See you all there tomorrow.
Wile I was there Simon told me that Tom Sagar will be turning up to compete. This should be a fun event to watch.
Different to what is written on the regs but we will be parking on the other side of the woods. Parking is at a similar location to the Clay Hill round last year.

The event will take place on the 10th of May 2009 at Chavenage Farm near to Tetbury.
On the original staging date for the opening round of the 2009 National Hewitt XC series back in February, eight inches of snow covered Chavenage, a venue that has endless potential and which sits in a gorgeous Cotswold valley with Gatcombe Park, the royal residence of HRH Princess Anne in the distance. For the re-staging of this Midwest MCC promoted event on Sunday though, there could have been no greater contrast in conditions as warm, Spring like sunshine greeted the truly fantastic 307 strong entry, again proving the immense popularity of not only the Hewitt series but also XC racing in general. At most venues, an entry of this size would create congestion, but such is the fast, flowing nature of the vast Chavenage expanses with its combination of motocross style blasts and open wooded sections that a majority of riders managed to comfortably complete the three hour blast with little difficulty. Once again Midwest MCC produced a quality event for their entry and so it was therefore rather fitting that the eventual top Expert honours in this Hewitt opener should be claimed by one of their main team riders, Ollie Moyce. However the Husaberg rider certainly had to work overtime for his win, snatching victory on the final lap of the event following a thrilling tussle with Matt Ridgway.
Â

Right from the start, Matt Ridgway had been the early pace-setter, forging an advantage ahead of Ollie Moyce before the latter eventually hit the front. Then, came the first moment of drama as Ollie Moyce stopped to refuel in the parc-ferme. Whilst filling up, Ollie Moyce lost his balance and was trapped under his machine with the fuel spilling onto his race clothing.
Â

Once upright again, Ollie regained his composure before racing off in hot pursuit of Ridgway, lap by lap reeling him into his sights. With just one lap remaining, Moyce had finally caught the Suzuki rider, locking him into his sights, and the battle of the young guns was well and truly on. On that final lap though came the race deciding moment in the only wet, muddy area of the entire circuit. On the exit from a rutted stream crossing, Matt Ridgway spun off and so close was the charging Moyce that he was unable to avoid collision, falling on top of his stranded rival. In the battle to remount, Moyce was quickest to climb aboard his machine and regain traction before blasting off to take the win.
